This cake should have come with a warning, "Handle at your own risk!". The birthday boy is fascinated with ninjas and samurai, so the inspiration for this creation was his Imaginext Samurai Castle. Let's get to the "point",... check out those 12" swords! Go big, or go home was what I thought while sculpting each out of fondant. But when it came time to figure out how to put them on the cake,... I decided I'd lost my mind! The end result was having them cross over the cake, partially cutting through the top layer. Perfect! A hand sculpted, fondant ninja star stands front and center with the birthday boy's name and age. I painted each with edible silver for realism. Hopefully Connor was able to have a little fun with these.
Next, I hand sculpted the tiger face, making a replica of the one on the toy castle. It's 3-D, and pretty cool, I think. For the bottom tier, I used an exacto knife and cut ninja silhouettes out of black fondant. To finish it all off, the Mother supplied plastic toy ninjas to stand around the cake. Happy Birthday Connor!
