Miss Ya'll... from Texas

A few adorable sweets for some folks headed down the trails to greener pastures.  Half are decorated with a vanilla buttercream icing swirl, and patriotic colored sprinkles.  The other half are iced with creamy chocolate buttercream, silver dragees for sparkle, and you guessed it,... the greatest flag in the nation.  That's what you were thinking, right?  : )  Each hand crafted from fondant, with "Miss ya'll" written in icing.

"The stars at night, are big and bright,... (sing it with me!)....deep in the heart of Texas!"...... "Reminds me of, the one(s) I love,.... deep in the heart of Texas!"  Ya'll better come back and visit now, ya hear!

St. Patricks Day: Rainbows and Shamrocks

Colorful rainbows, lucky shamrocks, and a glittering pot o' gold could only mean one thing,.... It's Macy's birthday! I was so thrilled to be asked to create such a fun cake, for such a special occassion as a first birthday. Let's start at the top,... which happens to be my very favorite part of this cake,... the rainbow. I took the liberty to add a little whimsy to the traditional shape, which really gave character and interest to the overall piece. It's hand sculpted out of fontant, with 3 wooden dowels standing it up in the cake. The fondant number 1 and Macy's name plaque are made of fondant as well, and painted with edible gold. I decorated the middle tier with rainbow colored, striped icing. Using the white icing as a canvas, allowed the colors to really pop. Green fondant shamrocks, on wires, "floated" around the sides. The bottom tier is iced in green with shamrocks seeming to "dance" around in a circle. Of course, we couldn't forget the pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow! I sculpted it fron fondant, and added fondant yellow circles to mimic gold coins. As for the perfect finishing touch, a light dusting of edible rainbow glitter.

Then, for Macy, her own individual "smash" cake. This always creates the perfect photo moments. It's decorated to perfectly coordinate with the party cake. Some might say "It's the luck of the Irish",... but with these fun creations, "It's the luck of the birthday girl!" Happy Birthday Macy!

Leap Frog Cupcakes

"Time flies when you're having fun",..... but when you're enjoying this cupcake creation, "Time's fun when you're having flies!". My oldest son was born on Leap Day 2004. To help celebrate his 2nd official birthday, we brought these cute frog cupcakes to class. Michael's only request was that the frog had to be catching a fly,.... fondant, that is. : ) The eyes are made from a large marshmallow, cut in thirds, and dotted with black icing. Yummmmm!

Snowflake and Flowers

These cute cupcakes were made for a "We'll miss you" party. The festive snowflake was hand "drawn" with melted white chocoalte in a decorating bag. I squeezed out the design, waited for it to harden, and then carfully placed it on top of the swirled blue and white icing. I added a sprinkling of white pearl dragees to finish off the snowy look. The yellow icing flower was ordered as well, simply because they love yellow. I gave them a dash of edible sparkle to give the illusion of morning dew. We miss you Mrs. Lane!

Happy Valentine's Day!..... Cupcake Bouquet

Stop and smell the roses,.... I mean chocolate! These adorable bouquets are made up of 7 Triple Chocolate cupcakes and buttercream icing, decorated to look like beautiful pink roses. I took the time to make different shades of pink, so they look more realistic, and added a little sparkle for "dew". They sit inside a black pot, tied up with a festive red ribbon bow. The floral card holder is the perfect finishing touch.
Hope your Valentine's Day is a "sweet" one.

Snowman Cupcakes

What's cuter than this adorable little snowman cupcake?.......
...... 47 of his closest friends! These are a lot of fun to make, and so festive for the season. We made these up to surprise two classes at a local elementary school. My daughter is on the Special Olympics team, and these classes have adopted her as their Pen Pal. They've sent sweet letters of encouragement, so we thought we'd send them some "sweets".
His head is a large marshmallow. I used a black food coloring pen for the details on the face, and icing for the carrot nose. The matching scarf and hat are made with icing, with an extra large silver dragee to top it off. Living here in Texas, this is about as close as we'll get to a real snowman this year. Happy Holidays!

Christmas Present

My husband asked for a cake to give his youth group as their Christmas present from him. Is it just me, or should he have been decorating his cake while I licked the icing bowl? : ) Anyway, it was a fun cake to create,... but surprisingly time consuming because of the fondant bow. It needed to be extra large to be proportional to the size of the present, which was 19" x 13". Everything else is icing, including the white polka dots. I was happy with the way it turned out, and all the boys seemed happy to receive it. Merry Christmas!
