This is the perfect "Knock it out of the park" design for a big baseball fan's birthday. With icing, I made the brown dirt and white lines on the field, and then used fondant to make each base. Green icing was used to create a fun "grass" border around the bottom. The rest of the detail was hand sculpted from fondant. Five colorful pennants tower over the field: Happy, Birthday, Anothony, Rangers, and Aggies. The birthday boy plays on the Rangers this season (and is AMAZING by the way), while his Mother is a proud Aggie. I sculpted four fondant baseball bats to stand at each corner. To get the realistic "wood grain" look, I twisted a few colors together and rolled them in my hand. My favorite part of this cake is the baseball in the center. I covered styrofoam with fondant and added the details, along with the birthday boy's age. On the sides, I hand piped the Texas A&M logo,... to make the Mom smile. : ) Now take a close look at the top of the ball. See the little "button"? Here,... let me press it for you. "Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowds......." There you have it, the perfect cake, for the perfect celebration, playing the perfect theme song. Happy Birthday Anthony!
