Rainbow Cupcakes

As another school year ends, here is the perfect treat for those that have been so "sweet".

These adorable cupcakes are made with my White Cake recipe and Whipped Buttercream Icing. YUM! The best part is after you bite into it,........ a whole bright rainbow of colors! I seperated and colored the batter, then layered it to give this amazing rainbow look. To finish it off, a white "cloud" of icing with colorful sprinkles on top.

The first has a tag that reads "Summer Time".   Perfect for anyone, especially all these kids that just finished up a great year. Surprise them when they come home after the last day of school!

The second makes for a perfect Teacher Gift.  The front of the tag reads "Teachers are like rainbows...", then on the back, "Bright bridges to our future."

Here's to a great year!  With special thanks to all you teachers.  Enjoy Summer!

Giants Baseball

"Who are we?.... Giants!  Who are we?... Giants!  Who are we?... Giants!  WE ARE... GIANTS!"  The season is already coming to an end, which means it's time for the team party,... and cake!  For the cap, I stacked 3 layers of cake and went at it with a knife, carving it into a hat shape.  This takes a lot of time and patience to get it all symmetrical.  Then I formed the bill out of fondant, and added "stitching" indentions for realism.  The main cake is covered in green icing to look like a field of grass.  I love how it turned out, but can I just say.... "OUCH!"  After piping that many blades of grass, my little Giant player owes me a hand massage.  : )  Then I placed fondant baseballs, with each players name and jersey number, around the sides.  They were the first things the boys ate.  Now for my favorite part of the cake,...  the name on the back of the cap,...  Coach Bill.  Dedicated.  Genuine.  Funny.  Supportive.  Weatherman.  Teacher.  Crazy socks.  Friend.  Motivator.  Just a GREAT guy.  Here's to a fun season, with an amazing group of kids, families, and coaches.  Go GIANTS!

Homerun!

This is the perfect "Knock it out of the park" design for a big baseball fan's birthday.  With icing, I made the brown dirt and white lines on the field, and then used fondant to make each base.  Green icing was used to create a fun "grass" border around the bottom.  The rest of the detail was hand sculpted from fondant.  Five colorful pennants tower over the field:  Happy, Birthday, Anothony, Rangers, and Aggies.  The birthday boy plays on the Rangers this season (and is AMAZING by the way), while his Mother is a proud Aggie.  I sculpted four fondant baseball bats to stand at each corner.  To get the realistic "wood grain" look, I twisted a few colors together and rolled them in my hand.  My favorite part of this cake is the baseball in the center.  I covered styrofoam with fondant and added the details, along with the birthday boy's age.  On the sides, I hand piped the Texas A&M logo,... to make the Mom smile.  : )  Now take a close look at the top of the ball.  See the little "button"?  Here,... let me press it for you.  "Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowds......."  There you have it, the perfect cake, for the perfect celebration, playing the perfect theme song.  Happy Birthday Anthony!

Project Runway Cupcakes

So, I get this fun order for some birthday cupcakes with a "Project Runway" theme, and all I could think was... "Make it work!"  With so many aspects going into high fashion couture, I decided to focus on a few objects that take a winning design from concept to runway magic.  Each piece is hand sculpted from fondant.  The "tomato" pin cushion includes a wire and yellow fondant ball to mimic a pin, while a yellow measuring tape sits slightly unrolled atop a swirl of icing.  For this diva look, it included a lime green bag, accented with a rolled flower, silver dragee, and stripes.  Of course, nothing would be complete without a pair of teal strapless stilettos.  Now,... take a closer look.  These aren't your ordinary fondant heals.  Check out those red soles!  Now that's "fierce"!  Finally, we finish this look off with the perfect pink lipstick, and fondant "Project Runway" logos.
Not only are these one of a kind, designer cupcakes ready for the runway,...  but perfect for Katie's special day.  Happy Birthday GIRL!
