Here's a creation with so many elements and details, I had to get it just perfect for this young Jedi's big day. The Mother loved the Star Wars cake I made for my son last year, and wanted something similar,... but including Legos. "May the force be with ME!"
Both tiers are iced in a deep blue, with little white dots for galaxy stars. On the very top sits a recreation of the Death Star, made of fondant wrapped around a styrofoam ball. I used a green straw to mimic the Death Ray. I also hand sculpted fondant Legos, with hundreds of little round nobs, individually placed on each brick. I highlighted the Star Wars Lego figurines by placing them on top of a few Legos in front of the Death Star. I pushed toothpicks into each, so the characters would stay in place. Using an exacto knife, I cut the Star Wars logo out of fondant, painted it with edible silver, and placed it on the front of the cake.
The next tier was the most time consuming. I really wanted to highlight Legos and Toby's name,... so I combined the two. This is my favorite part of the cake! Then I placed fondant Legos all around the bottom tier in a circle, to really capture the theme.
Now for two surprises. Can you guess how old the birthday boy is? Keep looking,.... it's a battle of good vs. evil,.... think Roman Numerals,..... Got it! Toby's turning the big 5, so I sculpted some fondant light sabers and placed them on the cake board in a "V" shape (Roman Numberal 5). Kind of fun, don't ya think?! Well, then you'll love this! Check out the Darth Vader candle. When you push his head down, you hear the Star Wars theme song. Once again, I took the sound chip from a Build-A-Bear, made a fondant "stand", attached the candle,... and there you have it. LOVE this cake! You know what I love even more,.....
The expressions of shock on the birthday boy's face, and his sister's, when they saw the cake for the first time. Priceless. That's what makes me happy, creating memories. : )
Happy Birthday Toby!
Thanks for making Toby's birthday wishes come true! HE felt so special. Making the Lego figures removable on toothpick stands was brilliant because my son was able to handle them without disrupting the cake before company came. So delicious and so beautiful!
