This classy, youthful cake is "Perfectly Pretty". I love the drama created when you use an all white cake design as the backdrop for a punch of color. The purety of the white icing is perfect for this baptism cake, while the special girl's favorite colors bring it personality. The purple flower is hand made from fondant, with silver dragees for a little sparkle. The fondant "A" on top is the first letter of her name, and was sculpted around a dowel, inserted in the cake so it could stand up. Congratulations on your special day, Abbie!

Ice Cream Cone Cake
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM..... CAKE! Not a single, or even a double, but this special birthday girl got a TRIPLE scoop,.... even though all she wanted was "chocolate cupcake with yellow". Here's the story. This special day belonged to my special daughter, Victoria. A few weeks before I asked her what cake she wanted, and to my disappointment, all she said was "chocolate cupcake with yellow". WHAT?! That's it?! No design that would keep me up working on it for days?! Call my crazy, but I was bummed. Victoria could have any cake her heart desired, and all she wants is a c-u-p-c-a-k-e. Seriously? She must not have understood what I was asking, right? So, I did what all Mother's do that don't get the answer they wanted the first time,... I kept asking, hoping she'd change her mind. Nope, didn't happen. Then, two days before the party she picked out her pinata, an ice cream cone with a pink scoop of "ice cream". That's it! I asked Victoria if she wanted her cake to look like the pinata,... and I got a YES, and "chocolate cupcake with yellow". Let the craziness begin!
With little time, I had to think quickly. No time for plan B or C, Plan A had to work. I started off this creation at Lowes. Yes, a home improvement store. Funny thing is, with all the remodeling we've done, this place as become my second home. Is it embarrasing that most of the employees know me by name? My husband thinks so. : ) Anyway, back to the cake. I headed straight for the pluming department and bought a flange, threaded connector "thingy" (that's what us plumbing experts call them), and some PVC. Then off to Hobby Lobby for a styrofoam cone.
My Father was visiting from California, so I got him involved with the sawing, drilling, and hammering,... then I carved out the inside of the cone to fit over the PVC pipe. What a project,... and I was still just beginning. Next I covered the cone with fondant, making some criss-cross indentions to mimic a real cone. Then I took a knife and carved three "scoops" out of a stack of 6" round cakes. Covered them in icing, added some icing "chocolate" drizzle, rainbow sprinkles, and finished it off with a fondant cherrie on top.
So there you have it, a triple scoop cake more than 2 feet tall, and most importantly, lots of "chocolate cupcake with yellow". We had such a fun party with many friends from her special needs class, and I have to admit, the cupcakes were the first to go. : ) Happy 11th birthday sweatheart!

Dino Land
From top to bottom, this cool cake is covered with all types of fondant dinosaurs. To give a more realistic texture to their "skin", I pressed each one against a sieve and let it dry. The cake is covered in an icing scene of mountains, grass, bushes, and a giant volcano. I added a few pieces of fondant "lava" coming out the top to give a 3-D effect. To finish off the scene, I scattered a few chocolate, candy rocks around the dinos. Happy Birthday Cade!
Winnie the Pooh
Here's a special birthday cake for my son's teacher. With a classroom decked out in Winnie the Pooh, we had the perfect idea for her cake. I stacked four layers of cake, and then went crazy carving the iconic honey pot. It's all covered in icing, with some icing "honey" dripping down the side. I twirled some wire and attached little fondant bees, giving the illusion of them buzzing around the pot. Of course you couldn't have the honey without Pooh being close by. He's all hand sculpted from fondant, sitting next to a fondant beehive, with a mouth full of honey. A little bee proped on his ear on toe seem to finish off the scene perfectly. I also made some cupcakes for the kiddos to enjoy, with fondant daisies and honey bees on top. Happy Birthday Mrs. Jarmusch!
Dubble Bubble
How cute is this theme for twin's first birthday?! I just love it! The Mother's inspiration was a piece of Dubble Bubble Gum and just ask that I use the same colors. So, after coming up with a few ideas, I couldn't stop thinking how fun it would be to have a giant cake replica of the little piece of gum. Everything is icing except for the two fondant, blue wrapper "twists" on either side. To make it a little more personal, I changed the wording to "Heaton's Original", which is the girl's last name,... and added a pink birthday banner at the bottom. Now for more fun, I made individual cakes for the girls in coordinating colors. The sides are iced with strips, while fondant gumballs and a number "1" adorn the tops of each. Double the fun! Happy Birthday Ally and Kenzy!
Paw-ty Time
It's my youngest son's birthday,...... time to Paw-ty! After loving our experience with my older son's birthday at the California Pizza Kitchen, we went back for another round of fun. Carson was so excited to finally get his own CPK Chef jacket, that the restaurant embroiders his name on. So cool!
With all the craziness in our family's life these past few months, apparently I lost my mind along the way,......... because I finally gave in and let the kids get a dog. However, there were two stipulations that all had to agree with: it's an outside dog, and I get to name her. Sounds fair, right?! The "outside" dog rule wasn't hard to agree with, now that we have 5+ acres for her to run around,... but Mom naming her was a little hard for the boys to swallow. Of course, I had to have a little fun with it. After throwing out names like Cupcake, Frosting, Pink Princess, Twinkle Toes, and having fun watching their skin crawl.,.... I finally landed on the perfect name, Macy. You see, in our family we have an ongoing battle between the boys and girls as to which store is the best, Macy's department store or Dick's Sporting Goods. To the point that the boys won't step foot in Macy's, and high tail it across the street to Dick's as soon as I stop the car. Looks like Mom got the last laugh. : ) Welcome, little Macy, to the family.
Now about the cake.................
Carson wanted his to be all about his new buddy, Macy. I hand sculpted her out of fondant, and brushed a little water on her nose to give it a realistic look. I just love the expression on her face, with her head tilted. The dog house, giant bone, and dog tag are also made of fondant. I iced little paw prints around the bottom layer to bring the theme together. Now take a real close look at the bowl of dog food. Remember the surprise on my older son's Star Wars cake? Well, we did it again. Carson pushed the green piece of dog food and we all rocked out to,..... yep, you guessed it,......."Who Let the Dogs Out - who, who, who?" Come on, sing it out loud! "Who Let the Dogs Out?".....Oh,..... Sorry for putting that song in your head all day. : ) Happy Birthday Son!
