Bee Happy

I've been wanting to make a beehive cake with little fondant fees flying around it, so when asked to make some cupcakes for a Teacher luncheon, I knew exactly what I was going to do. For the bumble bee, I rolled fondant into a tear drop shape, more little fondant rolls for the stripes, cut out dainty wings and brushed them with shimmer dust, dotted the eyes with food coloring, and finished it with a cute little smile. The icing swirl mimics a beehive shape wonderfully. I colored some coarse sanding sugar to match, let it dry, and then sprinkled it on. The white fondant daisy is just so bright and cheery! I used a press and then rolled each petal to give them some dimension, added a little sparkle,... and there you have it! A perfect Spring cupcake display. : )
