"Tangled" up in Cake

Here's a fun cake inspired by the movie Tangled, the story of Rapunzel. There are so many elements to this one,... let's just start at the top. First off, this is one tall cake,... almost 22"! The tower is all hand sculpted from fondant, with styrofoam for structural support. To get a realistic look, I took great care to hand make individual tiles for the roof and individual stone "bricks" for the tower base. I also painted on a little tan food coloring to give an aged look to the house. The cake is also adorned with fondant rocks and toy movie characters.
The bottom tier is half covered in icing "grass" and flowers, while the other half is a blue lake with a fondant boat. The floating lanters are also fondant, dusted with gold shimmer and painted on sun. Now for a little game of Hide and Seek. Can you find Pascal the cameleon? Found the name of the birthday girl? .... you're getting warmer, warmer,... there you go! Pascal's on the roof, and..... Happy Birthday Sasha! (Here name is on the front of the top tier, disguised as ivy.)

  1. Wow, this is beautiful. I would love to try and make this for my daughter's fifth birthday party. Do you have any additional tips for this cake? I am a novice but have some supplies. Or better, are you local to MD LOL.....

    Great work!

  3. What size are the two round "base" cakes? Is the tower all styrofoam covered in fondant? The best Tangled cake I have seen after hours spent searching the web!

    1. thanks for the compliment! I used 6" and 12" rounds. The tower is a styrofoam cylinder with a cone on top, that I made by rolling cardstock paper. Then I covered everything in fondant. Good luck, and have fun with it!

  4. I agree the best tangled cake by far! How did you get the smaller attached tower to work out exactly? I have been having a horrible time trying to figure that out!
