Snowman Cupcakes

What's cuter than this adorable little snowman cupcake?.......
...... 47 of his closest friends! These are a lot of fun to make, and so festive for the season. We made these up to surprise two classes at a local elementary school. My daughter is on the Special Olympics team, and these classes have adopted her as their Pen Pal. They've sent sweet letters of encouragement, so we thought we'd send them some "sweets".
His head is a large marshmallow. I used a black food coloring pen for the details on the face, and icing for the carrot nose. The matching scarf and hat are made with icing, with an extra large silver dragee to top it off. Living here in Texas, this is about as close as we'll get to a real snowman this year. Happy Holidays!

Christmas Present

My husband asked for a cake to give his youth group as their Christmas present from him. Is it just me, or should he have been decorating his cake while I licked the icing bowl? : ) Anyway, it was a fun cake to create,... but surprisingly time consuming because of the fondant bow. It needed to be extra large to be proportional to the size of the present, which was 19" x 13". Everything else is icing, including the white polka dots. I was happy with the way it turned out, and all the boys seemed happy to receive it. Merry Christmas!

Angry Birds

So who would have thought such an angry bird could turn out to be a cute cake! I have to admit I didn't know this game, but quickly discovered that millions of you do,... including a 6 year old named Harrison. This cake is decorated completely in icing. I included a frying pan and eggs, hand sculpted from fondant, as a finishing touch. The eggs are brushed with a little luster dust to give them a nice shine. Happy Birthday Harrison, and good luck with those crazy little green pigs. : )

Nail Polish

First, a little history about this cake. Victoria, our special needs daughter, loves nail polish, which she respectfully refers to as "paint". Countless times each day, she points to her nails and asks "Paint?". Loves it so much it's become the perfect bargaining tool. Stay in bed,... get paint the next day. Sounds simple, but unfortunately the paint doesn't get to come out that often. But when it does,... it's a big celebration. Now, just imagine the "celebration" when she saw this giant, pink "paint"....... p-r-i-c-e-l-e-s-s.
I made the label out of fondant, dusted with a little shimmer, and highlighted with silver dragees. Notice the "10 ml" at the bottom,... it's Victoria's 10th birthday. I made the lid by covering a tall plastic cup with black fondant. Then I added 2 flowers for visual appeal. Happy Birthday Sweetheart, and enjoy your "paint"!

Super Heros Plus

Here's another take on the Super Heros cake I did last year. A favorite of this birthday boy is Captain America, so I added him to the very top. Both the Captain America and Superman logos are made of fondant, everything else is icing, including the clouds. The bright colors and graphic look of this cake is so appealing to me. I was thrilled how it all came together. Happy Birthday Witt!

Nail Polish, Lip Stick, and Purse Cupcakes

Okay, I LOVE these,... especially the little purses. Can you get more girlie than these adorable cupcakes? Each Triple Chocolate cupcake of pure goodness, is crowned with pink icing swirls, a few silver dragees for a little "bling", and a hand sculpted fondant piece. Once I dusted on a little shimmer, the lipsticks started to look like the real deal! I also gave the nail polish some sparkle, and painted on a silver heart. Happy Birthday!

Roses and Bow

4 roses, 3 tiers, 2 in love, and one beautiful occassion,... wedding bliss! Each tier is iced in white, with black icing dots and scrolls. Black satin ribbon wraps each base, connecting in the back with a pearl. A single hand sculpted fondant bow centers your focus, while it's cascading tails frame the detailed scroll work. Now to the roses. Oh I was thrilled when asked to hand make these out of fondant! Lots of trial and error to create four perfect roses for this couple's perfect day. I added a little shimmery petal dust to give the illusion of dew on a freshly cut rose. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Lucky In... Love

Cue the music..... "The stars at night, are big and bright,... deep in the heart of Texas!" Here's the perfect groom's cake for a couple with lots of Texas pride. This Lone Star State is iced to depict the Texas flag. The fondant stars and horseshoes were brushed with edible silver dust. Going along with the theme, I added an icing "rope" border. Everything is bigger and better in Texas,... including the cake! Congratulations!

Welcome!

Thanks for visiting! If you've been following my blog, you've noticed a big change in it's design. Thanks to my sister-in-law, Desi, it's finally coming together. I'm so excited!

In the meantime, please be patient as I work on getting all the cakes and comments into their correct categories. In the end, it will be easy to find a particular cake or theme. For now, all the cakes in their entirety can only be seen on the "Home" page. Use the dates on the right of the screen for quick reference, or simply scroll down the page and continue to hit "older posts".

Have a fabulous day, and keep craving cake!

Happy Halloween,... Choco-Lota style

Here is the one stop cake for all chocoholics, the Choco-Lota. It's a Triple Chocolate cake, iced in whipped chocolate buttercream, surrounded by King Sized Kit Kats, topped off with festive M&M's, and wrapped up with a bright orange bow,..... Sugar high, anyone? Made for a birthday that happens to be close to Halloween. Happy Birthday!

Harley Davidson

70 and still "Lovin This Ride"! I was excited to do another Harley Davidson cake, and thought I'd make a little design change from the previous one. Can you see what's different? Well, besides the sign moved to the top of the cake, I did a different style of flames. With these I layered the icing colors instead of blending them. I'm lovin' it! All icing except for the fondant "70" topper, signs, and Harley logo. Happy Birthday Jerry, and keep lovin' the ride!
